About Munich
The City of Munich is situated north of the bavarian alps in the middle of Europe. The city is crossed by the river "Isar", which has a length of 13, 7 km within the boundaries of the city. The city covers a surface of appr. 310 sqkm, the lowest point is 482 m above sealevel, highest point: 579 m above sea level.

Munich was founded by Henry the Lion in 1158. The name is actually München, which comes from the expression "Bei den Mönchen" or "near the monks”, because Monks had been living in Munich 108 years before Henry came along. There was a monastery next to St. Peter’s church, which was built in 1050 and is still standing just off the Marienplatz. Nicknamed the City with Heart as well as The Village of a Million Inhabitants, Munich is the capital of Bavaria, the largest and most picturesque of Germany’s 16 provinces. With a population of about 1.3 million, Munich is the third largest city in Germany behind Berlin and Hamburg. Germany itself is about half the size of Texas and has a population of about 82 million.

See the Glockenspiel
The Glockenspiel is that noisy thing in the middle of the new town hall at Marienplatz. It goes off at 11.00 and often at 12.00 and 17.00 also. It lasts just about 15 minutes. Rad City Bike Tours starts conveniently at 11.15 so you can come watch the 11.00 show before the tour.

Stay for Oktoberfest
Oktoberfest is by far the most famous beer festival in the world. For just over two weeks Munich celebrates the marriage of Prince Ludwig I and Therese in 1810. Oktoberfest takes place at the Theresienwiese (the "Wiesn"). Take the U4 or U5 to Theresienwiese or the S-Bahn to Hackerbrücke.
